All anglers must have a licence to fish tidal (salt) waters in British Columbia. You MUST purchase your licence online before you head out.

Licences are purchased annually and are good from April 1 to March 31.

A Canadian resident is an individual who normally lives in Canada; proof of residency may be requested. A non-resident is anyone who does not live in Canada. All posted licence fees include taxes.

Immediately following a landing of Chinook salmon, an angler must record the retention on their license.

Barbless hooks are required for all salmon fishing.

BC Fishing Regulations North Coast: Daily and Possession Limits (subject to change by the DFO)

  • Chinook 2 a day and 4 in possession
  • Coho, Chum, Pink 4 a day and 8 in possession
  • Total possession limit of Salmon is EIGHT (8) of which no more than FOUR (4) can be Chinook/King salmon
  • Halibut 1 a day and 2 in possession (size limits apply)

Possession Limits are twice the Daily Limits for Rockfish and Lingcod as described below.

  • Lingcod 2 a day and 4 in possession
  • Daily limits: Rockfish, all species combined – three (3), only one (1) of
    • which may be a Quillback rockfish, a Tiger rockfish, or a China rockfish.
    • Zero (0) retention for Yelloweye rockfish and Bocaccio rockfish
  • Dungeness Crab 6 a day and 12 in possession male only
